The MISSION of the SFDS CYO Program is to provide participants from
Grades K-9th Grade (based on grade in September-grade 9 is Swimming
ONLY) a variety of sports activities with the primary goal of skills development
in the respective sport/activity with team work, sportsmanship, competition
and fun for participants and families and the opportunity to represent our
Parish as additional goals.
Keeping up on what is going on in CYO requires you to get information. Some
sports are structured so that you get a call when assigned to a team. Other
sports do not contact you. The weekly Church Bulletin and our website
sfdsparish.org are the BEST source of information/announcements. Every
attempt is made to provide accurate and timely information in the Church
Bulletin and on the website.
SFDS complies with all CYO RULES & REGULATIONS particularly regarding
eligibility. You are eligible to participate in the SFDS CYO Program if you
comply with the following:
- Live within the Parish (Beach 116th Street to 149th Street, regardless of religion)
- Attend SFDS School or Religious Education Program
- Worship at SFDS as evidenced by an active “Weekly Collection Envelope” (a Parishioner).
Where space is limited in a Program or Programs, priority is given to those
families that are Registered with the SFDS Parish as active “REGISTERED
PARISH FAMILIES.” These families are active in the religious life of the
Parish, attend Mass and receive Sacraments and contribute to the financial
health of the Parish ((Moderator’s Policy Letter of September 2020). We do
NOT accept members from other Parishes (“wavered in”). We only grant
“waivers out” to other CYO programs if a SFDS participant is not selected
due to space limitations.
- CYO participation requires a commitment on the part of both players and parents. Parents are required to make an equal commitment to support all activities that their child/children PARTICIPATE IN ON A “FAIR SHARE” BASIS.” CYO understands the demands that families have, but we need your support. CONSIDER YOUR PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY BEFORE, REGISTERING – parents not willing to support CYO should not register.
- The structure of CYO has a Parish Athletic Representative (PAR) as the overall manager of CYO who reports to the Moderator (one of our parish priests). Additionally, the Treasurer assists the PAR in various matters and provides the required financial controls and reports. Each respective Program has a Director in charge. Any problems encountered, information needed, questions, suggestions, etc. should be addressed first to the particular Coach, then the Director. PLEASE NOTE THAT SFDS CYO IS AN ALL-VOLUNTEER PROGRAM.
****Several Programs (CYO Swimming, Cheerleading, Soccer, and CYO Basketball) require you to purchase uniform items. If so, these are your property.
Insurance for your child(ren) is your SOLE RESPONSIBILITY AND IS
REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN SFDS CYO. You will have to attest to
such on your Registration Form during In-Person registration. SFDS CYO
will not accept or process insurance claims for any participants.
TO PARTICIPATE IN THE DIOCESE OF BROOKLYN CATHOLIC YOUTH
ORGANIZATION (DOB CYO), YOU MUST REGISTER WITH DOB CYO
FIRST and attain a DOB CYO MEMBERSHIP NUMBER. Bring this
number and your Family Parish Number (or Collection Envelope) with you
for the In-Person registration.
Instructions for DOB CYO registration is contained in this CYO section of
the parish web site, where you can then REGISTER with the SFDS CYO Program.
****The IN-PERSON Registration Dates for the 2022-2023 season beginning
in September will be announced in our Parish bulletin.****
